DVD
authoring Edinburgh: Our in-house new media time can work from static
logos, or from existing film clips (on DVD or VHS cassette) and create
your new DVD, with any desired additions. We have found in the past
that our clients tend to re-use existing footage wth additional, event-specific
footage added as appropriate. This will often take the form of animated
sponsors logos, with footage of past events (eg fashions shows, cocktail
competitions, or club events) interjected periodically. Another common
desired use of DVD is for the insertion of titling advertising upcoming
events supported by the same sponsor.
Our DVDs are produced on the most widely compatible DVD disks (we can
supply any kind although DVD-R or DVD+R are our usual disk format of
choice), with a professional looking on body full colour print, featuring
your logo, event names, instructions and any other desired or relevant
infomation. We will supply jewel cases and can provide colour inserts
& sleeves depending upon your wishes. If you have any questions
or would like a quote on a DVD authoring or short run duplication job
please feel free to give us a call on 0131 558 3824 - ask for Rock.

We have AV distribution amps & multimedia switchers. We have vision
mixers, sound systems, visual effects units, projection screens, cd
players, dj mixers, technics dj turntables and all manner of other professional
event production equipment & lighting, so we are able to provide
a full event production service in addition to DVD authoring.
Lets take a moment to get technical for those who are interested in
some of the key factors in DVD authoring. One of the first things to
be considered is disk format, of which there are many competing fomats.
This is becoming less of an issue for the formats which have been around
for some time now as domestic DVD players will happily work with most
DVD formats. The original DVD formats were DVD-R & DVD+R which are
write once. These were followed by DVD-RW & DVD+RW which are a similar
format although they have adopted the rewritable technology as seen
in CDRW & magnetic disks, ie. they can be rewritten repeatedly.
Domestic DVD players may support these formats, newer ones should do.
DVD-RAM is another format which has been around for some time (since
1999) but it is not widely supported by players. All these DVD authoring
formats offer a 4.7 gigabyte capacity which was a considerable improvment
on CD storage format, which have a capacity of 650 / 700 megabytes.
The latest DVD authoring formats are have a DL suffix which denotes
Dual Layer technology, ie. they have double the capacity of a standard
DVD....support for these drives is coming online slowly now and despite
attempts to standardise the technology, it has not quite happened, as
there are newer even higher capacity formats in development. What will
probably happen is that the formats will continue to co-exist and the
manufacturers of the DVD authoring drives & DVD players will built
machines designed to be compatible with the majority of formats.
DVD's are widely used for video / audio footage as they have the capacity
to store full feature films due to the disk compression formats used.
DVD films are encoded in MPEG2 format which allows for a movies to be
heavily compressed (ie. shrunk to 1/10th or less of their original uncompressed
size). This is visible to a certain degree but it does depend upon how
heaviliy compressed the film footage is. PEG quality is typically expressed
in a data rate eg. 8mbps (8 mega bytes per second) which can be variable,
or set up to a maximum of 9.8mbps. For most of the DVDs which we author
for our clients in Edinburgh & Scotland we do not utilise anywhere
near the full capacity of the disk, typical disk length will be 1 -
10 minutes, but with the disk authored as an endless loop this isn't
a problem. We would usually disable all menu options and set the disk
to autoplay which minimises the risk of undesirable interference from
bar staff, or any unauthorised persons on-site. After all, there's not
much point in paying for a DVD which someone turns off after 2 minutes
when your back is turned thereby spoiling all your hard work and ruining
the effect.

to give us a call and discuss your requirements. Our number is 0131
